Owed Early access

Owed writes the awkward email about the unpaid invoice. You read it before it goes.

Connect the tool you invoice with. When something goes past due, Owed drafts a reminder in your own words, shows it to you, and sends it when you say so. It never sends anything on its own.

Early access opens in January for 200 accounts. We are two people in Raleigh, North Carolina, and we answer email ourselves.

A week with it

Here is what one late invoice looks like, from Monday morning to paid.

  1. YouMonday, 9:02

Has Pemberton Landscaping paid 1138 yet?

  2. Owed9:02

Not yet. It was $2,400, due Friday the 17th, and it is the first time they have been late. Here is a first reminder in your usual tone. Shall I send it at ten?

Draft to Dana PembertonHi Dana, hope the Oakwood job is going well. Invoice 1138 for the September planting plans was due on the 17th and I do not see it yet. Could you take a look when you have a minute? Thanks, Priya.

  3. You9:06

Yes, but move the due date to the end and say the PDF is attached again.

  4. Owed9:06

Done. It goes at 10:00 from your address with the PDF attached. If nothing arrives by the 31st, I will show you a second reminder before anything else is sent.

  5. YouWednesday, 2:40

    They paid.

  6. Owed2:40

I saw it come in and marked 1138 paid in QuickBooks. Four invoices are still open and none of them are late.

What it does

What it does today, and what it does not do yet.

Today

  • Reads open invoices from QuickBooks, FreshBooks, Wave and Stripe.
  • Drafts reminders in your tone, learned from emails you approve.
  • Sends from your own address, so replies come to you.
  • Marks invoices paid when the money shows up.
  • Keeps a plain log of who was reminded and when.

Not yet

  • It does not call anyone, and it will not.
  • It does not add late fees or interest.
  • It does not take payment itself; the link in the email is your invoicing tool's.
  • Xero and Harvest are planned for the spring.
  • It does not send anything you have not read.

Price

One price, and it stays where it was when you joined.

$12 a month, early access

That covers one business, as many invoices as you send, and every reminder. After launch the price is $19 a month for new accounts, and early access accounts keep $12 for as long as they stay. You can leave from the settings page in one click; the log is yours to download and your data is deleted within thirty days.

Who

Two people in Raleigh who used to write these emails every Monday.

Priya Natarajan kept the books for a twelve-person design studio for six years, and the Monday reminder emails were the part of the job she liked least. Tom Ferreira built the billing system at a payroll company and wanted to make something smaller. Owed is the tool Priya wished she had, built by the person who kept hearing about it.

Write to hello@owed.example with anything, including why this would not work for you. Those are the most useful emails we get.
